Île aux Cerfs
a reflection by Melody
We step, barefoot from the ocean into a boat on the east coast. It takes us over beautifully coloured water and past serene clumps of mangroves. Further in the distance are serious mountains. On the ‘Island of Deer’ people huddle under eaves or trees as rain pours down. But there are swimmers who do not despise the rain on their skin, and move in the water as distant figures on a sheet of grey. Later we explore the rugged side of the island and take a dip in the water, boats bobbing gently beyond us.
